Movie: Dumb And Dumber To
Rating: 2 1/2 Stars (Out of 5)
Review: There are a lot of films where a sequel would be met with much anticipation, such as Gone With The Wind 2, Casablanca 2, and so on. Dumb and Dumber did not appear on the list of must see sequels. Nevertheless, 20 years after we first met Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) and his BFF Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels), we are graced with their presence once again. Lloyd has been shamming everyone into thinking he was a basket case at a care facility, and Harry finds out he has a 20 year old daughter Adele from Fraida Felcher (Kathleen Turner). And oh by the way, Harry needs a kidney transplant. Together again, the dynamic duo are off on an adventure to save Harry, discover family, and along the way unintentionally create mayhem and confusion to all who come in contact with them.
Okay, here’s my take. Carrey and Daniels are both extremely talented actors who can do both comedy and dramatic roles. But this movie was running on fumes from the very start. Carrey gets off a few clever zingers, but you know a movie is in trouble when the funniest scene involves inflicting onerous farts on an unwitting Travis.
Actor To Watch: Rob Riggle plays Travis, a bad guy in this movie, but is a talented character actor. He was quite impressive earlier this year in Let’s Be Cops.
Huh? What The….: Oh Kathleen! What ever happened to that mega hottie Matty Walker from Body Heat?
Loved that Zamboni with the advertisement on the side for Mr. Pants All Nude Cabaret. Don’t think you can crank a Zamboni up to highway speed and drive to another city in one….
Loved Butthole the Cat’s daring stunt work.
Dialogue Nuggets: “I could eat the mudhole out of a dead skunk!”
“You filled him with wonder, like, I wonder who my deadbeat Dad is.”
Harry: “Well, that was awkward.” Lloyd: “Yeah, someone comes to your door at 3 A.M., put some pants on!”
Lloyd: “She’s not going to say no. She’s the Fruit of your Loom.”
“I’ve always wanted to go to India and volunteer at a leprechaun colony.”
Lloyd: “Check out the hotties at 12 o’clock!” Harry: That’s almost three hours away! Can’t I check them out now?”
Post Credits Stuff: Yes, there actually is a fairly clever ad for a Dumb and Dumber For sequel coming in 2034. (Please let it be just a gag! Please!!)
